Skärmskydd masks personal data — names, email addresses, personal identity numbers, phone numbers, profile pictures, and faces — on web pages. It is designed to protect privacy during screen sharing, video meetings, and presentations.
Skärmskydd does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. All processing happens entirely within your browser. No information is sent to any external server, API, or analytics service. The extension does not transmit any user data or telemetry. The only network requests made are standard, local requests to fetch images already present on the pages you visit, solely for the purpose of performing local face detection.
The extension stores two things locally in your browser using Chrome's built-in storage (chrome.storage.local):
1. Your settings (which masking types are enabled or disabled).
2. Any names you have manually added to the name list.
This data never leaves your device and is not synced to any cloud service.
The optional face detection feature runs entirely in your browser using a local detection model. No images or pixel data are sent to any external service. The detection model is bundled with the extension.
Skärmskydd does not use any third-party services, analytics tools, tracking pixels, or advertising networks.
The extension requests access to all websites because users need to mask personal data on a wide variety of sites — the specific sites vary per user and cannot be predicted in advance. While the extension's script loads in the background to ensure immediate protection upon page load, it remains completely idle and does not modify or read any page content unless you have explicitly toggled the masking protection to ON.
